Just a few more days of waiting! A new chapter is set to be added to the Kolkata Metro map on August 22.

Kolkata Metro: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate three new metro lines on the same day. This initiative will undoubtedly give a new direction to Kolkata’s transport system, making travel even more convenient and faster for the city’s residents.

East-West Metro and the Connection of New Lines

One of the three lines likely to be inaugurated on this day is the crucial Esplanade-Sealdah section of the East-West Metro. With the start of this line, two major railway stations, Sealdah and Howrah, will be directly connected by metro. This will bring great relief to daily commuters. Additionally, the travel time from Esplanade to Sealdah will be significantly reduced.

The second line, the Ruby-Beleghata section of the New Garia-Airport Line, is finally coming to an end. This section’s launch will make the journey from New Garia to Beleghata even easier. A total of five new stations have been added to this line: VIP Bazar, Ritwik Ghatak, Varun Sengupta (Science City), and Beleghata. The addition of these stations will connect several important parts of the city, and a significant increase in passenger numbers is expected.

The third line is the Noapara-Airport Metro Service. The start of this line will connect the airport directly to the city by metro. This will be a major convenience for air travelers in Kolkata and West Bengal. This long-awaited dream is finally coming true.

Railway Board’s Inspection and Preparation

Recently, the Chairman of the Railway Board visited Kolkata to review the preparations for these three projects. He inspected the Howrah-Sealdah, Beleghata-Ruby, and Noapara-Airport lines by traveling on the metro. After his inspection, he expressed satisfaction and will submit his report to the Ministry of Railways. Following this, the Metro Authority is awaiting final approval from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Although the Metro Authority has not yet announced a final date, all preparations are in full swing for the likely inauguration on August 22. With the launch of these three new lines, on one hand, the Kolkata Metro network will expand, and on the other hand, the daily lives of the city’s residents will become much easier. This is not just an expansion of a transport system but also a reflection of a new blueprint for a modern Kolkata.
