Sourav Ganguly has a long-standing association with JSW Sports, where he serves as the Director of Cricket. JSW Sports co-owns the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league, with the GMR Group as their partner. According to their contract, management responsibilities are transferred every two years. This year, the GMR Group is handling the men’s team in the IPL, while the JSW Group will be in charge of the women’s team and the South African league team. The JSW Group will resume responsibility for the men’s IPL team in 2027.
Since JSW Sports is now in charge of the Pretoria Capitals, the company’s Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, has been appointed as the head coach. He takes over from former English batter Jonathan Trott. The Pretoria Capitals welcomed their new coach with a message on social media.
Ganguly has led the national team and served as the BCCI President. A couple of months ago, when asked about his future plans, he said, “I haven’t really thought about it. I have worked in various roles. After professional cricket, I became the board president.” When asked if he would coach the Indian team, he replied, “Let’s see what happens in the future. I am only 50. I want to keep all possibilities open. Let’s see what happens.” Although not with the national team, the “Maharaj” has now begun his coaching career. This raises the question: could Sourav Ganguly be the next coach of the Indian team?
