Industrial City Extends a Hand of Humanity | Durgapur Chamber Donates ₹5 Lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for North Bengal Flood Victims

Industrial City Extends a Hand of Humanity: When floodwaters engulfed vast stretches of North Bengal, leaving behind a trail of devastation, the industrial city of Durgapur stepped forward to show solidarity. The Durgapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has announced a contribution of ₹5 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit districts.

At a press conference held at the Asansol-Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) office on Wednesday, the Chamber made the formal announcement.

“We are seeing one district after another in North Bengal suffering immense losses. At this moment, channeling funds through the government is the most effective way to ensure timely and targeted relief,” said Chamber President Chandan Dutta, expressing the organization’s resolve to stand with the affected.

Senior ADDA officials, the vice-president of DCCI, and several members were present at the press conference. The Chamber also hinted that the amount of aid could be increased if the situation worsens further.

Currently, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar remain submerged under floodwaters. With rivers like the Teesta and Taldu crossing danger levels, countless homes have been washed away, while roads, bridges, and farmlands have suffered massive damage — displacing thousands.

In such a grim backdrop, DCCI’s contribution goes beyond financial assistance; it stands as a symbol of humanitarian commitment and social responsibility. “Standing by one another during disasters is the truest form of social duty. We hope our effort inspires other industrial and commercial bodies to come forward,” the organization stated.

As nature’s fury continues to test North Bengal, this gesture of compassion from Durgapur reaffirms a powerful truth — that in times of crisis, the bonds of humanity outshine all divisions, and the spirit of Bengal remains steadfast and united.
