World AIDS Day – is an international day

observed on 1 December every year. The day is observed to raise awareness about Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and to show compassion for people suffering from these diseases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) changed this day in 1988.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized at Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning, December 1, 2023. 50 people donated blood in this camp. Santiniketan Medical College and Hospital Principal Prof. Dr. Gautam Narayan Sarkar, Dean Prof. Dr. Pratip Kumar Kundu, former State Health Education Director Prof. Dr. Sushant Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Santiniketan Medical College Blood Center Director Prof. Dr. Tapan Kumar Ghosh, Dr. Ayan Goswami and others were present at the camp. Many were present.

The objective of World AIDS Day is to:

  • To disseminate accurate information about HIV and AIDS
  • Raising awareness to reduce the risk of HIV infection
  • Showing empathy towards people living with HIV and AIDS
  • Various events and programs are celebrated in different countries on the occasion of World AIDS Day. These events organize talks, exhibitions, educational workshops etc. to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.
  • The theme of World AIDS Day 2023 is “Together, we can end AIDS”. This motto conveys the message that everyone must work together to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS.
  • Observing World AIDS Day is an important way to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and help fight the disease.
