Abhyudaya Patrika Group Celebrates Rakhi Bandhan in the Spirit of Rabindranath Tagore

Abhyudaya Patrika Group: The Abhyudaya Patrika group of Jayanagar Majilpur celebrated the Rakhi Bandhan festival on Sunday in the spirit of Rabindranath Tagore. The group has been observing this day every year since 2012.

This year, the group started the celebrations from Chandni of Dhanvantari Kalimandir in Jayanagar Majilpur and circumambulated the various roads of the municipality. Around 2000 people tied rakhis in the hands of people as a symbol of brotherhood and unity. The members of the group also pledged to “tie the fence”, a phrase used by Rabindranath Tagore to promote communal harmony.

The Spirit of Rabindranath Tagore (Abhyudaya Patrika Group)

Rabindranath Tagore, a visionary poet, philosopher, and polymath, recognized the power of traditions to transcend boundaries and promote unity. In 1905, during the heated Swadeshi Movement and Partition of Bengal, he introduced the Rakhibandhan festival as a symbol of solidarity. This heartfelt gesture aimed to unite people from diverse backgrounds in the face of adversity.

The Continuation of Tradition

Inspired by Tagore’s enduring spirit, the “Abhyudaya Patrika” group of Jayanagar Majilpur has celebrated Rakhibandhan since 2012. Their commitment to this tradition serves as a reminder of the need for brotherhood and unity in an ever-changing world. The annual celebration brings together around 2000 people from the community who participate in the ceremony with enthusiasm and a shared purpose.

The Ceremony

Each year, the Rakhibandhan celebration begins in the morning at the Dhanvantari Kalimandir in Jayanagar Mojilpur. Participants then embark on a procession, circumambulating various roads within the municipality. During the procession, people from all walks of life tie rakhis on one another’s wrists as a symbol of their commitment to brotherhood and unity. This powerful act reflects the very essence of Tagore’s vision, reminding everyone that they are bound by a common thread of humanity.
